A Sample Logging of Packet Radio Stations...
Most packet radio stations have the capability
to monitor "traffic" on their listening frequency, and some even have the
added ability to log this information in either a file or a database! (The
list is usually named after some variation of the standard "mheard"
list.) The table below logs the mheard listing for the NET105 HF network,
found on 14.105 Mhz.
This listing proves useful in a number of ways.
First, it lets the station operator know that the packet radio receiving
system is working. Just because you can hear the packets on the radio doesn't
always mean they are being decoded properly. It's re-assuring to see the
data actually going by on the screen, especially when working with new or
experimental software, or a newly configured TNC.
A second reason, and certainly a more prevalent
one, is to simply see who is on frequency today, who is around for a
chat or a QSO. If you don't have immediate access to your station, or if
you are not a ham, but like to "follow" this kind of activity, or if you
are travelling and still have internet access, here is a way to see who
was on the the
NET105 network today! (You might even see yourself here...) And if you
need to see who has been on this year so far, you can browse the list at
