This index page presents a
listing of articles
and documents from the original JNOS Manual authored by Robert Fahnestock,
WH6IO, and James P. Dugal, N5KNX. Kudos gentlemen! The writing of manuals
is avoided almost as much as by programmers as the reading of them by
users. On my part, every effort has been made to preserve the original
content; only slight modifications in layout and style were effected,
which it is hoped, will make for easier reading.
Manuals, and companion documentation pieces, are sadly often the last
resort of the beleaguered technical enthusiast! My approach here has
been to "divide and conquor" with a view toward not quite making manual
reading fun, but perhaps just a bit more interesting... and thus, more
rewarding and, it is hoped, productive for the struggling first-timers,
in-betweeners, or old-timers! No matter how proficient we get, we never
really outgrow the "manual!"
The gradual "html-izing" of this document is a work-in-progress. Where
feasible, a full translation to html will be attempted. Much will no
doubt remain in "plain text" form, but will have call-outs and call-ins
integrated into the work. For example, if an article is disscusing
routing, a reference will be made to the manual for more detailed help,
or useful background, contextual information...
The work has been divided up into what appears, to me, to be the logical
building blocks comprising the original manual: the frontpiece, the TOC,
and all the remaining parts, and of course, the alphabetical listing of
the commands themselves. We live in a "search engine'd" world today, so
perhaps our "isolationist" document construction ignores at its peril
this most powerful parsing of the written word... Wherever feasible,
an internal net of links will be strung among all pertinent articles
and this master reference: the JNOS Commands Manual.
Have fun with it, and have fun learning about JNOS or any *NOS related
networking system. :)
