Linux is an operating system that is modeled after UNIX systems. It was
developed by Linus Torvalds as a student while at college,
and has been greatly enhanced since that time.
Linux brings the flexibility and power of a UNIX-like system to the
PC operating environment. It has always been very reasonably priced, if
not free via the internet, and is gaining wide appeal among all groups
of users, especially ham radio enthusiasts...
Many ham radio applications have been ported to Linux, especially JNOS.
The AX25 Utilities were written with Linux in mind. The ham radio community
contributes freely to various projects for the Linux environment, as
well as many other contributor groups... That is part of the appeal of
Linux.
